King Charles won't be visiting Prince Harry on U.S. trip this week

April 27, 2026

His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Camilla arrived in Washington, DC, Monday for Charles’s first visit to the United States as King, following his ascension in 2022. However, the Royals won’t be seeing Charles’ son Harry, who now lives in the U.S. Here’s what to know about their itinerary.

What is the Washington itinerary for His Majesty?

According to a White House press release , U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will welcome Charles and Camilla Monday afternoon when they arrive to the South Portico of the White House. The couples will then head to the State Floor, where they will sit for tea in the Green Room. After tea, they will tour the newly unveiled and expanded White House Beehive before departing the White House Grounds.

On Tuesday morning, the Trumps will host a State Arrival Ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House to mark the official arrival of Charles and Camilla. National anthems of both countries will be played, followed by a 21-gun cannon salute.

Following an inspection of the troops, Trump will deliver remarks from the South Lawn. The couples will then proceed to the Blue Room Balcony for a Pass in Review of 300 U.S. Service Members, with nearly 500 members of the U.S. Armed Forces from all six military branches present.

This will be followed by the signing of the White House guest book and an official gift exchange. Next, the couples will participate in a receiving line with delegations from both countries.

Trump and the King will then head to the Oval Office for a meeting. Meanwhile, the First Lady and the Queen will join American students for a cross-cultural educational event at the White House Tennis Pavilion.

Later in the day, Charles is expected to address a joint meeting of the U.S. Congress, the first time a British monarch has done so since Queen Elizabeth II in 1991.

On Tuesday evening, the Trumps will host a State Dinner in the East Room.

Where else are the Royals going in the U.S.?

On Wednesday, Charles and Camilla are expected to visit New York, where they will attend a ceremony at the September 11 memorial, marking the upcoming 25th anniversary of the attacks and meeting first responders. They are expected to be joined by the city’s recently elected mayor, Zohran Mamdani.

They are also scheduled to travel to Virginia to take part in events linked to celebrations marking 250 years since the founding of the United States, including a community “block party.”

Then on Thursday morning, the Trumps will again greet the Royals at the South Portico and say their farewells in the White House Diplomatic Reception Room.

What is the significance of the visit?

The 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence could be considered a touchy event, since it involved the 13 Colonies breaking away from Britain when it was ruled by Charles’ great-great-great-grandfather King George III. However, Trump’s apparent fondness for the King is likely to dispel any awkwardness.

The visit also comes at a time when relations between the U.S. and the U.K. are sensitive, amid differences over the war in Iran. However, it’s worth noting that Royal visits are planned months ahead of time, and this one would have been arranged before the war began.

Who won’t the King be seeing?

In addition to not seeing Charles’ son Harry and his wife, Meghan (who, to be fair, live on the other side of the country in California), Charles will not be meeting with survivors of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, despite calls from Congressman Ro Khanna and others for him to do so, the BBC reports .

The King’s brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (formerly Prince Andrew), had links to Epstein and was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office in February. He has denied any wrongdoing.

The BBC says the Queen is expected to meet with representatives of groups campaigning against domestic abuse and violence against women, however.

Where will the King go next?

Buckingham Palace has said that, following his trip to America, “The King will then continue to Bermuda to undertake His Majesty’s first Royal Visit as Monarch to a British Overseas Territory.”

When was the last Royal visit to Canada?

Charles and Camilla came to Canada last May for a two-day visit that was His Majesty’s first since his Coronation, and his 20th overall.

Activities included an audience with the Governor General, opening the 45th Parliament of Canada and delivering the  Speech from the Throne , and a wreath laying at the National War Memorial.
