Several generations ago, if you wanted to make a public announcement, a 'town crier' would ring a bell and read it out loud. It's a lost art in today's complicated world, but a weekend competition is keeping history alive. This year, Ottawa is playing host to the annual Ontario Guild of Town Criers Competition, with the field of play running from 12PM to 5PM on Saturday and Sunday. OTTAWA — Former environment minister Steven Guilbeault will resign as a Liberal MP. He will make the announcement to his colleagues Wednesday morning in caucus and will give a speech in the House of Commons later in the afternoon to explain his reasons.
