The Westminster Hotel, affectionately known as The Pit by locals in Dawson City, Yukon, was destroyed by fire. The building dates back to 1898 and was a beloved gathering spot for the community.

The fire broke out late Wednesday at the site along Green Avenue near Highway 97, the property that once housed the estate of prominent businessman David Kampe.
