Ottawa Now - For special guest Race Weekend participant Sudarshan Gautam, no marathon or mountain is too mighty to conquer

May 21, 2026

The late-May staple has returned, as Canada’s Capital prepares to welcome over 40,000 participants and 2,500 volunteers over two action-packed days. It’s the Tamarack Homes Ottawa International Marathon, better known as Ottawa Race Weekend. They’ve sold out every single event – from the Ottawa Half Marathon presented by Desjardins, to the Ottawa 10K presented by Otto’s Ottawa. Sudarshan Gautam will be running as a special guest during Sunday’s International Marathon circuit, and it won’t take long to understand that he’s no ordinary runner. When he was 13, Gautam lost both of his arms in a life-altering accident. Nowadays, he’s an advocate and a leader for disability awareness. Oh, and he also became the first person without arms to summit Mount Everest. He joins Kristy Cameron on today's Ottawa Now.
