Hour 2 of Ottawa Now for Tues. June 2nd, 2026

June 2, 2026

New camera technology deployed in Brampton has aided Peel Police in over 200 investigations within the past year. The municipality has installed 360-degree high-resolution cameras, along with automated license plate recognition technology, at 50 intersections. The price tag comes in at $2 million. The cameras come from Genetec Incorporated – a Canadian security technology company – and they can read license plates with a nearly full field of vision. Could Ottawa benefit from this kind of technology, or is this just increased surveillance? We pose that question to CTV public safety analyst Chris Lewis, who is also a former OPP Commissioner. Meantime, do you ever feel guilty about resting? For instance, you’re reading a book, but you can’t stop thinking about your to-do list. And then, a level of uneasiness starts to creep in. Some call it ‘productivity guilt’. But where do we draw the line? Psychotherapist Benslyne Avril pays us a visit on this Self-Help Tuesday.
