Ottawa's Edith René wins CBC's First Page student writing award

CBC Books asked students across Canada to write the first page of a novel set 150 years in the future, imagining how a current-day trend or issue has played out. About 1,200 students submitted their stories in this year's contest.
Ottawa's public health unit says it expects its funding shortfall to more than triple from $4.5 million in 2027 to $14.7 million by 2036, and it says dwindling contributions from the province aren't helping.
