Throughout the world, cities often celebrate the calendar date that coincides with their telephone area codes. They’re called Area Code Days. The telephone area code for most of Ottawa is 613 which would make Saturday, June 13, you guessed it, Ottawa Day!

We could tell you how proud we are to live in such a dynamic, interesting, multicultural, inclusive and fun city. But we’d rather show you and invite you to share your own. The story behind our area code

Created in 1947 as one of the original North American area codes, 613 has long served Eastern Ontario, including Ottawa, Kingston and Cornwall. While its boundaries have shifted over time with the introduction of new area codes, 613 continues to stand as a familiar marker of Ottawa’s history, connection and local identity across our region.
