The price of fish and chips is going up this summer in Atlantic Canada. Here’s why

The Pleasant Street Diner in Dartmouth, N.S., serves about 1,000 pounds of fresh haddock per week. But early this month, their supplier increased the price of the historically affordable fish by 40 per cent, or about $5 per pound. Overnight, their weekly haddock expenses went up $5,000.

Rainstorms are set to begin Sunday morning, dumping 50 to 80 millimetres of rain onto the region, according to Environment Canada, adding that total rainfall amounts could approach 100 millimeters in some areas.
