Ottawa Now - Councillor Carr calls for incentivized recycled bottles policy

June 16, 2026

An Ottawa city councillor wants to incentivize people to recycle their bottles more often, and she’s calling on the province to take action. Marty Carr wants to expand Ontario’s deposit return program for items like water bottles, pop cans, and juice boxes. She argues that a system like this would help prevent these items from going in the trash bag. Her motion passed at a City Committee this morning, and will now head to City Council for further debate. The voice of Alta Vista Ward joins Kristy Cameron on Ottawa Now.
