Why more Quebecers are flocking to Laurentians as province's demographics shift

People looking for more space, lower housing costs and easier access to nature are helping drive population growth in Quebec’s Laurentians, according to the province’s latest demographic projections. While Montreal is expected to lose population over the next 25 years, municipalities in the Laurentians are preparing for more residents — and the housing and infrastructure needed to support them.

The Ottawa Police Service says reports of sexual assaults have increased by almost 24 percent during January to August this year compared to the same time period in 2025.
