Opportunities to support residents affected by the July 1 extreme weather event

Donations and volunteers are needed to assist with recovery efforts for residents impacted by the storm.

Following the July 1 extreme weather event, the need remains high for assistance for many impacted households. Residents looking to support recovery efforts can do so in many ways.

The Canadian Red Cross is collecting financial donations to help residents requiring basic necessities and temporary shelter while insurance claims are being processed. Please consult their 2026 Ottawa Floods Appeal webpage to donate.

Samaritan’s Purse Canada is seeking volunteers to assist with recovery efforts for residents impacted by the storm. Their primary focus is removing damaged materials from basements for individuals who have been unable to do so. The organization is independently coordinating and managing volunteer support, including volunteer registration, scheduling and deployment based on recovery needs and capacity.

Individuals who register will volunteer directly with Samaritan’s Purse Canada, not the City of Ottawa. Volunteer opportunities are offered based on daily capacity. If volunteer spaces are full for a particular day, the registration page will indicate that capacity has been reached. Residents are encouraged to check back and register for another available day.
