Compensation fund for victims of lawyers can cover more than just financial loss: ruling

In 2025, the Law Society of Ontario denied compensation to a victim client of a criminal defence lawyer who sexually exploited her, defamed her online and threatened to kill her. Now a court has issued a ruling that opens the door for victims of dishonest lawyers to be compensated for the loss of their sexual integrity — not just the loss of misappropriated money.

WestJet has reached an agreement with the union representing more than 4,000 flight attendants and cabin crew to end a strike that disrupted flights over the long weekend.
