A group of merchants in the ByWard Market have banded together, calling on the City of Ottawa to backtrack its redevelopment plans for 55 ByWard Market Square. Nearly every single business inside Ottawa’s historic Downtown building has signed a petition, fearing that this blueprint could lead to the eventual evictions of all 17 food and craft businesses – some of which have been operating in that sector for decades. Maxine Hill is the owner of Canada In A Basket and a spokesperson for the ByWard Market Building Tenants Alliance. She joins Kristy Cameron on Ottawa Now.
