Last week, U.S. President Trump was ready to pull the trigger on a series of 50% tariffs against Canada. Fast-forward to Wednesday, and it appeared that a deal to avoid said tariffs was in the works. But as the clock struck Midnight on Friday, everything fell apart. We don’t know the specifics of the deal, and we don’t know the exact warning signs that spooked Canada, but the bottom line is that we no longer have a deal and the latest wave of Trump tariffs are now in play. And over the coming weeks, Canada will strike back. Is a ‘fight fire with fire’ warpath the right move for Prime Minister Carney to pursue?
