Road salt shortage forces Ontario cities to put different de-icing plans on their plates

An early winter and more extreme weather have made road salt a hot commodity, with the early winter and harsher weather creating shortages, and many cities and communities adjusting their approach to de-icing roads and sidewalks. The world’s largest underground salt mine, which is in Goderich, Ont., says it's working round the clock to try to meet demand.

A Treasury Board message said executives will have to work on-site five days per week starting May 4, with all other employees expected in the office four days a week as of July 6.
