Ottawa Now - Councillor Carr 'outraged' following another scary midday crash near an Ottawa school

April 14, 2026

Ottawa Police say a driver has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle following a wild collision in front of an elementary school. The two-vehicle crash took place yesterday at Marie-Curie Elementary on Heron Road, which ended with one of the cars flipping onto its roof. Now, there used to be a speed camera at the school, but it has since been taken away by the Ford government. According to public data, the camera on Heron Road between Alta Vista Drive and Baycrest Drive issued a whopping 3,819 tickets in 2025 before the lights were turned off in a November purge. And just a few short weeks ago, the death of a crossing guard sparked a major debate about road safety in school zones. So, once again, should tougher road safety measures be implemented? Alta Vista councillor Marty Carr joins Kristy Cameron on today’s Ottawa Now.
