About the author

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: TERRY KIMMEL
The past 15 years of my career have been spent in the hydrogen and fuel cell world and I continue to stay involved with several Boards in that sector. But, at this stage of my career I prefer to refer to myself as semi-retired and to take on projects that I enjoy. Supporting David Chernushenko to get this film produced is one of those enjoyable projects. I have always had respect for David’s consistent contribution to sustainability and am happy to play a small part in getting his film in the public eye.

'Bike City, Great City' is an uplifting ride through cities that are embracing cycling as a liberating, convenient and healthy way to get where you want to go.

ABOUT THE FILM: BIKE CITY, GREAT CITY
David Chernushenko is a citizen, cyclist and city councillor in Ottawa, Canada, which received a “Silver” Bicycle Friendly City designation in 2011. That’s pretty good. But for David — and all cyclists and aspiring cyclists — Silver is not good enough. They want Gold. They want their city to be a place where people of any age, gender and income level see the bicycle as a practical, appealing and affordable choice for traveling to work, to school, to the shops, to everywhere.

In North American cities, less than two percent of people choose the bicycle as a regular mode of transportation. In great European cycling cities, more than 30 percent do. But in the last five years, dozens of major American and Canadian urban centres have figured out what Copenhagen has long known: When you give people a real choice — by making cycling a safe and appealing way to travel — they flock to it in droves and transform the city into a better place for everyone. Even drivers.

Bike City, Great City - a new film by David Chernushenko

June 27, 2013

Dear Ottawa residents,

As the City of Ottawa debates better transit, better cycling and walking infrastructure and implementing its Complete Streets objectives, David Chernushenko's new film Bike City, Great City will be launched at the Mayfair Theatre in early July. Bike City, Great City was made to demonstrate how the steps taken by a city to become great for cycling, in fact make that city greater for everyone: even drivers! Details of the two screenings follow.

On July 9, the film will have its first cinematic screening, followed by a Q&A with the director. The July 10 screening, on the other hand, will be followed by an enlightening panel discussion about making Ottawa a great city for cycling. Both promise to be lively and informative events.

Tickets can be purchase at the door ($7 for Mayfair Theatre members; $10 for non-members). Donations towards the production costs will also be gratefully accepted.

Regards,

Terry Kimmel, Producer
