Para Transpo is having issues getting its fleet out on time. It has been going on for a while, but on Thursday it blew up when only a third of the buses got out, while drivers waited to get a bus.
The issue is a shortage of mechanics to keep the buses rolling in a safe manner for all.
Some of the buses have over 600,000 km. In the summer, after inspection, one bus was found to have a rotten frame.
Customer Service will be reduced January 1st by 1 hr. The buses start running at 6 am but no one will be answering the phones until 7 am.
OC Transpo’s head honcho said at the Transit Commission that customers from Para Transpo will see enhancements. I don’t believe we will see any enhancements if the buses are not leaving the garage on time—causing headaches for customers, the dispatch team, etc.
So far no memo has been issued. Everyone is waiting to hear. It’s causing a lot of anxiety among the ridership because we’re so dependent on it.
When LRT breaks down a memo is released. Why not for Para Transpo? Why do disabled people receive less service?
And, why does it keep happening? Do we have the right personal making the right decisions? The LRT Inquiry said Ottawa residents deserve better. Are we getting it?
Comments
They should privatize OC and Para.
It will make it worse instead of better for this type of service. Mike Harris tried privatization of Para Transpo, it failed miserable
How do you think privatizing will improve service? It could be a test case for the whole system if it went well. Right now they are struggling to find a successful business model.
