Press release - World Hong Kong Forum to Be Held in Toronto

April 24, 2026

Focusing on the Future of the Hong Kong Diaspora, Human Rights, and Community Renewal

TORONTO — The World Hong Kong Forum will be held on April 26, 2026, at Tyndale University (3377 Bayview Avenue), together with the initiative Global Prayer for Hong Kong Political Prisoners. Speakers and participants from various sectors will gather to discuss the identity, future direction, and responsibilities of Hong Kong people in the diaspora, as well as continuing human rights concerns in Hong Kong.

This year’s forum is themed:

“Hong Kong People: How Do We Move Forward?”

The event will explore issues including the adaptation and development of diaspora communities, the preservation of democratic values, and concern for political prisoners and their families. Discussions will take place through political, social, faith-based, and psychological perspectives.

Forum convener Edward Chin said the World Hong Kong Forum, founded in 2022, is now entering its fifth year. Established following the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, the forum was created to provide a free platform for Hongkongers around the world to connect, exchange ideas, and respond to shrinking civic space and social change.

He noted that a number of cases involving the National Security Law and public assembly charges continue to attract international attention, including those involving Jimmy Lai, Benny Tai, Joshua Wong, as well as ongoing June 4-related cases involving Albert Ho, Lee Cheuk-yan, and Chow Hang-tung.

Chin said Hongkongers worldwide, along with all those concerned about Hong Kong, have a responsibility to continue paying attention to these human rights issues and to express solidarity in meaningful ways.

Guests from the United Kingdom, the United States, and Hong Kong will participate both in person and online, helping expand international dialogue and awareness.

Since its founding, the World Hong Kong Forum has previously been held in San Francisco, Taipei, and Toronto, and has worked alongside Global Prayer for Hong Kong Political Prisoners to strengthen global Hong Kong communities and sustain concern for freedom, human rights, and the rule of law.

This year’s speakers come from politics, media, religion, advocacy, and mental health fields.

Edward Chin said:

“Nearly six years after the National Security Law came into force, many people across different sectors in Hong Kong remain deprived of freedom. We have not forgotten them. This forum is not only a platform for public discussion, but also a place for spiritual renewal and mutual support. Through reflection, prayer, and worship, we hope members of the diaspora can continue to stand together during difficult times.”

The forum will begin at 1:00 PM and conclude at approximately 7:00 PM on Sunday, April 26. Programming includes worship, keynote talks, and discussion sessions.

Selected sessions will be livestreamed on YouTube and Facebook via the YouTube channel YT@EdChinWorld.

A pre-forum gathering will also be held on April 25 at Crimson Teas in Toronto Chinatown, located at 415 Spadina Avenue, beginning at 5:30 PM.
