Podcast: Bill C-69

Today on the Unpublished Cafe podcast: The Liberals have staked a claim on the environment turning the Ministry of the Environment to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. And that Minister, Ottawa Centre MP, Catherine McKenna is now shepherding in Bill C69, the Impact Assessment Act and the Canadian Energy Regulator Act, to amend the Navigation Protection Act. It would replace, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 which was brought in by the Conservatives. At the time, many felt the government of the day was turning it's back on the environment and science in favour of economics.

Flash forward to February of this year and the Liberals introduced Bill C 69. It has been contentious at Committee with one member resigning in protest of the Liberals heavy handed tactics. The Liberals promised to make the legislation more robust and transparent, yet there is plenty of opaqueness. The resource sector, mining and oil feel the legislation goes too far and suggests it will put a squeeze on new projects.
