Family seeking $1.3M owed by Alberta separatist leader Dennis Modry after court order

Relatives of a prominent Alberta separatist who met with U.S. officials are upset that he has failed to pay back more than $1.3 million that he owes from a court order issued almost a year ago. A B.C. Supreme Court judge ruled in March 2025 that Dennis Modry, a co-founder of the Alberta Prosperity Project, misappropriated the money from the joint bank account of his aunt and uncle.

Police in parts of the Greater Toronto Area will be increasing their presence after shots were fired at two synagogues in North York and Vaughan.

Two more Toronto-area synagogues were hit by gunfire early Saturday, hours after the city’s Jewish community was warned to exercise extra caution as Israel and the United States wage war on Iran.
“Both incidents took place at a time when the buildings were empty and no community members were present,” the city’s Jewish Security Network (JSN) said in a community security update.
The targets were the BAYT synagogue on Clark Avenue in Thornhill and Shaarei Shomayim synagogue in Glencairn Avenue in the Toronto neighbourhood of North York, the JSN said.
