The latest unemployment numbers from Statistics Canada are in, and here is what they are telling us. The previously red-hot labour market is no longer hot, as it stalled out to end the Summer with a loss of 42,000 jobs in August. As a whole, the unemployment rate held steady at 6.4 percent last month. Prior to this rough patch, the labour market saw 181,000 jobs added from April through July. A Calgary judge has set aside an absolute discharge in a sexual assault case where a permanent Canadian resident argued he could face immigration consequences for a conviction. Haagen Sagli pleaded guilty to the May 12, 2024, sexual assault of a woman he met at a bar. The Norwegian citizen has been living here since he was 16, and his lawyer argued a conviction could lead to his deportation.
