Extreme winds in June caused the most insured loss of any event recorded in the province — $240 million — followed by the northern wildfires last summer. Higher losses can lead to higher premiums, and Canada should take more preventative measures, an expert says.
The figures were included in a number of confidential, preliminary budget documents obtained by Global News after being presented to Calgary city council earlier this summer.
