The New Edinburgh News of a new east end bridge at the aviation parkway must come as a shock to its readers. Make no mistake, the project which has been planned for the past 60 years is coming.
Ottawa has grown and the regular passing of 18 wheelers through Ottawa's core has worn thin, the route requiring four angular turns has never been safe.
The future will see trucks crossing over Kettle Island, down the aviation parkway to highway 417.
Some may adopt the NOT IN MY BACKYARD stance. Others may see the project as necessary for the city. Both are understandable... but the bridge is coming.
There is a need to engage planners now to ensure that the impact on Manor Park and Waterbridge, Cardinal Glen, and Carson Grove is optimized especially as it applies to traffic flow at Montreal and Ogilvie Roads where there are controlled crossings.
The residences along the aviation parkway will want pedestrian underpasses, and effective sound barriers. Thery have a right to demand sound deadening vegetation as well.
At the same time there are overpasses required at the controlled inter sections so that access to the Montfort hospital is not compromised. Do not let the project proponents off the hook for these modifications.
Locals also want to ensure that the design of the bridge ramps do not interfere with local traffic on the George Etienne parkway.
Now is not the time to sit at the table with your arms crossed. We need to engage with project planners now.
Excellent and a bit long for this format. Better if you just listed the matters without commentary.
Then added your comments later.
That business about "first past the post" still irks me. Trudeau's government is implicated in chinese influence and Fentanyl related scandals
Harper's penchant for omnibus bills irks me even more. You did not clarify which FIPA meaning.
Trudeau's invocation of emergency measures...was/ is very contentious and an over reach. You are giving them a pass... if your bank account was seized you would not be so generous.
The covid lockdowns were too austere.
Some say Trudeau Jr. Was the worst pm ever...I do not disagree.
The Carney speech in Quebec, proximal to the plain of...Abraham was problematic. Canada is a confederation of raucous provinces. One did and another will soon have a vote on leaving Canada!
Carney, therefore, must deliver the goods.
The USD is the world reserve and not easily replaced. Gold is the central bank alternative. Today
Au $7,153
Ag $ 153
Interest rates static, while gold is up $127 in one day. Is gold going up, or is the dollar going down? Its not like we can do anything about it.
Currency devaluation, the loss of purchasing power is much more palatable to voters than obscene tax increases.
In municipalities it manifests as degradation in infrastructure and diminished municipal services. There is a perception that more, yes, even more police services are needed
As for the nuclear option. See article 5. That road is fraught.
The fourth world war is to be fought with sticks and stones.
