Alberta-Ontario pipeline proposal faces criticism over costs, need and lack of Indigenous consultation

A recent proposal to build a new pipeline from Alberta to Ontario is drawing support from the president of the municipal association representing more than 100 cities and towns across northeastern Ontario. But an oil industry expert says the project faces major economic hurdles, and the Anishinabek Nation says it was “blindsided” by the announcement.

CHARLOTTETOWN — Eight premiers said Tuesday they would start allowing people in their province to buy alcohol directly from producers anywhere in the country. “We’re thrilled today that other provinces have joined us,” said New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt, whose province amended its laws to allow residents to order alcohol directly from elsewhere in Canada last year.
