Is the NDP squandering its chance by supporting the Liberals in Parliament?
Posted on October 6, 2023
Is it time for the Liberal—NDP coalition to pull the plug?
The Liberals don’t mind as they’re still in power, but the NDP, which is propping them up, hasn’t seen much in gains when it comes to the deal? They didn’t ask to form a coalition government with the Liberals, but they seem to be wearing every mistake the government makes. Is time running out for the New Democrats?

I voted: NoOn the contrary, this is the closest we come to true coalition government, where other parties take seats in Cabinet. I care less whether NDP support for the Liberal government benefits the NDP than that it results in policies (dental care, pharmacare) of benefit to the country.
I voted: YesJack Layton will be rolling over in his grave, with Singh your party is number 4 in the parties, and Jack was the Opposition party , and Trudeau will take all the credit, for teeth etc, no, we need an an election because the NDP dont care how much people suffer, and no more Singh as leader no
I voted: NoMulti-party governments aren't a bad thing. They're the norm in full (ie. proportional) democracies. The problem I have with the Lib-NDP agreement is how wimpy the NDP were in "negotiating" it. They didn't push for anything other than what the Liberals had promised anyway. That's pathetic. That said, I still very much prefer this government than any single-party majority government.
I voted: YesThey hold the balance of power for a liberal party that is self destructing and should be in a position to force their progressive agenda into the mix but don't seem to be doing anything. They have to know that the conservatives are poised to win the next election so if they want to accomplish anything they need to do it right now.

Partisan trolls on social media can be harsh and create an unfriendly and sometimes unsafe space for political discourse. But, government efforts to sanitize political speech have put a damper on what Canadians are willing to say online. The UNPUBLISHED platform provides the tools and space for Canadians to engage more actively in our political system within a supportive and rules governed environment.
