Why does Liberal MP Michael Ma parrot the words of a movie goer?

Posted on April 15, 2026

For this particular poll we’re going to do things a little differently.  Instead of a podcast or panel discussion we decided to create a video meme to illustrate a pattern we’d like your opinion on. We are close to this issue because of our experience hosting the World Premiere film screening of Love Supreme: Dialogue with Xi Jinping. So, we thought we’d ask our audience to weigh in…

Liberal MP Michael Ma’s question to Margaret McCuaige-Johnston, an expert witness to a parliamentary committee examining the alleged atrocities China is committing against religious minorities, like the Uighurs for example, was widely reported in the press.

The way in which Ma asked the question, challenging her as to whether or not she had witnessed the abuse firsthand in China, was eerily similar to a  question a Chinese woman (suspected spy) asked only few days earlier of the Japanese film director Hideto Sonoda at the screening of his film Love Supreme: Dialogue with Xi Jinping, which Unpublished Media hosted.

Watch the video, read the articles and opinion pieces of what transpired during our event, as well as those that have followed since, including the cancellation of five Shen Yun cultural Chinese dance shows in Toronto, due to fake bomb threats reportedly  traced back to Chinese authorities.

Let us know what you think: Is it a coincidence that these two people are asking the same question at two different and totally separate events? Or do you think there is more to it? If yes, is it worth investigating?

Let us know by voting and commenting in this audience poll.
