Chinese Interference in Canada’s Elections: How deep does it go?

Posted on April 1, 2023

It’s cloak and dagger stuff, the latest dispute between Canada and China.  A CSIS report suggests that China was complicit in trying to influence the outcome of the last two federal elections using money and intimidation.

The report points out, despite the attempt, the outcome of the elections would have been the same. The head scratcher is why the federal government is not holding a public inquiry into what happened.

I voted: YesThere should be a public inquiry into the allegations of election interference. I had heard of this previous to the last election and wondered at the time why it wasn't being looked into.
The public has a right to know if this is happening, we deserve a proper and honest voting system, if the system is broken then we also have a right to know this as well.
If no public inquiry is made there will always be a doubt that our elections are bought and being run by another country. The only reason I can see for not holding an inquiry is that someone is trying to hide the truth once again from Canadians, and I believe that we are all getting very tired of being screwed around.
This needs to be looked after, the sooner the better.

I voted: YesDr. Hanley,
I am seriously concerned about the reports of Chinese interference in Canada's elections and most aggrieved by the attitude and efforts of your Party leader and the members of your Liberal Party caucus to sweep it under the rug. If you have any integrity you will stop supporting those obfuscation efforts and join the chorus demanding a full public inquiry. Respect for our democracy and the free uninfluenced or coerced will of our electorate demands nothing less. As for the fact that the PM knew all of this and did nothing, his immediate resignation would b in order.

I voted: YesDear honourable Ya'ara Saks,

As a citizen in your constituency, I am writing to request for your action on the issue of infiltration of foreign power, namely the Chinese Communist Party, as reports from newspaper and CSIS were out about how they set up their three national security police stations in the GTA, and how they link to many Canadian politicians especially during the election time, be it financially, be it through media brainwash to local residents, and meddling on how our government handle the foreign policy, such as Meng's release and the delay of the two Michaels' release. As an MP, I believe that it is your duty to ask the PM to take immediate action on this matter or I will seriously rethink who I will vote in the next federal election, and all of the political discussions in my circle about our foreign policy.

I voted: YesIn the interests of transparency and the integrity of Canada, I join other Canadians in demanding a public inquiry into the Communist Party of China's interference in Canadian elections.

I voted: YesToo many questions have gone unanswered. We can't have anyone interfering in our elections. It's already bad enough with big business and unions getting personally involved. We need a full public inquiry and then we need a government that is willing to make broad changes to ensure democracy in Canada always remains in the hands of the people.
