Can a Pierre Poilievre led Conservative Party win the next federal election?
Posted on September 3, 2022
The day is drawing near for the federal Conservative Party to choose a new leader. September 10th in Ottawa delegates will gather to cast their ballot for the person to lead them into the next federal election, whenever that may be.
Pierre Poilievre has led from the beginning and shows no sign of easing up. Jean Charest is a distant second in the race leaving Leslyn Lewis, Scott Aitcheson and Roman Baber in the dust. Former Ontario PC leader, Patrick Brown was turfed from the contest over the summer for what the party called initially, “improper corporate donations”, which then became “suspicious memberships”. That move has drawn legal action from Brown.
The Party has been unable to knock Prime Minister Trudeau out of office three times despite ample opportunity to make their case with the electorate. In our last show before the Summer, we asked you which candidate would win the Conservative Crown and Pierre Poilievre was overwhelmingly the favourite.
Coming up on the show, we’ll chat with Lori Turnbull Director School of Public Administration Dalhousie University. As well, we’ll go to Vancouver and hear from Mario Canseco, President of Research Co. First, we’re pleased to be joined by Warren Kinsella, Political commentator, and former advisor Prime Minister Jean Chretien.

I voted: YesI sincerely hope our Honorable Member, Gary Vidal is in full support of Mr. Poilievre as he leads this country back to the “Strong and Free” we once knew. I’m sure he does, I’ve watched him in Question Period and I have no reason to believe otherwise. For us, and our circle of family and friends, Poilievre has the brains, knowledge, experience, grit and diplomacy when deserved, to make us proud he represents us on the world stage. I have not felt this hopeful for a very long time. He cannot take the reins soon enough!
It’s open to anyone to respond. The people who are most likely to respond to this poll are conservatives. Our polls are not scientific and we don’t pretend that they are. We really want people to use the opportunity to connect with their MP through our tool in order to communicate how they feel and how think about different issues. This time it's about the next leader of the Conservative Party.
I voted: NoI am a small-c Conservative. Poliviere seems a divisive, cock-sure candidate (like a rooster I mean, self-admiring). Needed instead is a kind, sharp, well-spoken, and not fast-speaking, sincere, intelligent, informed, we’re-all in-this together, a character, a problem-solver, a “we” person, and never an us v them type. A grown-up to Trudeau’s treacly platitudes and good-natured nod to Canada’s novelty socks industry. Deep intelligence, history, law, commerce, social safety net. Honour and mild self-deprecating, “I stand on the shoulders of giants,” type-person.
I voted: YesPierre Poilievre Is the only one that get rid of trudeau, the only one that loves and will stand up for freedom in our country, and will not back down on things that will make Canada move forward again and wont listen to the evil people trying to wreck the world. He is a smart in everything we need, financial, common sense, get rid of all these taxes and giving our money to crooked people and has great integrity, which is sorely lacking today. He has been a hardworking, commonsense good man.
